ALIS Book
English classics to read and to hear, with native narration and a sentence-by-sentence translation.
Context
English learners reach a point where they can read a real book. But the vocabulary gets in the way, sentences slip by and audiobooks move too fast. ALIS Book was made for that moment.
Challenge
- Reading alone in English is tiring: every new word interrupts the story.
- An audiobook without the text becomes noise; text without audio does not train the ear.
- A bare translation does not show why the sentence was written that way.
Solution
An app to read and listen to English classics. Native voices narrate each book, with one voice for every character, and the sentence being read lights up on screen. The text shows in English, in Portuguese, interleaved or side by side, and the audio can be English or Portuguese without losing your place. Tap a word to see what it means in that sentence; the AI tutor explains the grammar and vocabulary of the passage you are reading.
The app in use.
Real screens from the live app, on a phone: from the catalog to the reader, with the highlight following the audio.
